What is the Goole GoFar?

The Goole GoFar is a Transport Charity and Social Enterprise that provides accessible transport for the people of Goole and the surrounding areas who are vulnerable, isolated and socially excluded. Our service is unique as it helps to reduce the barriers to transport (rurality, accessibility and affordability) therefore reducing isolation. This allows our users to become more independent and socially active.


How long has the GoFar been operating?

The GoFar was formed in 2003


How is the GoFar funded?

The GoFar is a not for profit organisation that has received funding from Big Lottery. We also have Contracted income. Fares income from user groups and individuals. Grant income and our own fundraising efforts.


How many vehicles does the GoFar operate?

The Gofar has six 16 seat accessible minibuses. Two 16 seat standard minibuses. One accessible Community Car that can carry 6 passengers or 4 passengers and 1 wheelchair user.


Who can use the GoFar vehicles?

Voluntary and Community Groups in Goole and the surrounding area.


Do groups need to become members to be able to hire the vehicles?

Yes membership is required and certain criteria must be met – contact the office for further information.


Do you offer “self drive” hire?

No this is not possible. All bookings made will have a trained GoFar driver.


Can I use the GoFar for “hen” and “stag” nights, going to the races and the like?

No. GoFar cannot be used for bookings of this nature.


Can individuals use the GoFar?

Yes. As with the groups, they first need to become members and certain criteria need to be met - contact the office for further information.


What other services does the GoFar offer?

We provide transport for the East Riding of Yorkshire Councils MediBus service. Details and more information can be obtained by ringing the call centre on 03456 44 59 59

We run the Howden Town Bus Service (Howden residents only) on a Friday morning with pick-ups around the town, dropping off at the Cooperative Store.

There is a Mi Bus shopping service on a Friday morning bringing people in from Snaith, Cowick and Rawcliffe. This service also operates on a Monday, Thursday and Friday in the Howdenshire area.

We also run “day trips” to various destinations throughout the year for our individual members who because of age, sickness or ability are unable to access regular transport.


Does GoFar operate in the Howdenshire area?

Yes. GoFar Howdenshire operates a service that covers the villages of: South Cave. North Cave. Newport. Gilberdyke. Blacktoft. Sandholme. Eastrington. Howden and Holme upon Spalding Moor.


Does the Goole GoFar offer volunteering opportunities?

Yes. We are always looking for volunteer drivers and passenger assistants. Volunteer drivers need to be over 25 (for insurance purposes).


How do I become a volunteer?

You can give the office a ring or call in for an informal chat with a member of our team.


Do volunteers receive training?

Yes. Our volunteers are trained to MiDAS standards by our “in house” trainer. Volunteers also get a free Direct Barring Scheme (DBS) check.


Do I need a certain type of licence to drive a minibus?

A Full driving license with D1 entitlement is preferred. This would be on your licence if you passed your test before January 1997. You do not need this entitlement to drive our Community Car.


Do volunteers have to commit to a certain amount of hours?

No. Whether it be one hour a week or ten hours a week – whatever you can offer will be a big help to us.


Can I volunteer if I am receiving benefits?

You can volunteer if you are receiving benefits as long as you are still actively seeking work and be available for any interviews or to start paid employment. You should always check with your benefits agency and you should always tell them you would like to volunteer.
